Kebony Enhances the Norwegian Embassy in Brussels with Sustainable Wood Technology
Norwegian craftsmanship and innovation at the heart of an aesthetic upgrade
Kebony, an innovative Norwegian technology company specialising in sustainable wood production, played a key role in the recent refurbishment of the Norwegian Embassy in Brussels. The project, carried out by Epimmo on behalf of Statsbygg, the Norwegian government’s property and construction agency, highlights Kebony’s commitment to sustainability and architectural quality while reinforcing its deep connection to Norwegian heritage.
The terrace on the 10th floor of the embassy was renewed using Kebony’s high‑quality, durable wood products, known for their elegant appearance and exceptional resistance to weathering. This project illustrates how Kebony’s innovative approach to wood modification — a true Norwegian legacy — continues to shape modern, sustainable architecture.
Functionality, durability and design
The choice of Kebony by Statsbygg and Epimmo reflects a shared vision of sustainable building. Kebony’s patented technology, which elevates responsibly sourced softwood to hardwood‑level performance, offers an environmentally friendly alternative that embodies Norwegian values of innovation and respect for nature.
Integrating Kebony wood into the project required technical precision and close collaboration. Its low weight was an important factor, as it reduced the structural load on the rooftop terrace. The contractor, working with Kebony for the first time, praised both the material quality and its excellent workability.
The aesthetic value of Kebony gives the embassy terrace a warm and inviting atmosphere. This project demonstrates how Norwegian innovation and design can come together to create spaces that are both functional and visually compelling.
