Softwood

European Douglas

European Douglas is one of the strongest and most dimensionally stable softwood species native to Europe. Its heartwood falls into durability class 3, offering reliable outdoor performance, a warm reddish‑brown colour and a distinctly robust appearance. When left untreated, Douglas naturally weathers to an elegant blue‑grey tone — a process that can be slowed or prevented through staining or impregnation.

Thanks to its structural reliability, natural strength and visual appeal, European Douglas is a valued material for both exterior and interior applications.

    Advantages of European Douglas

    • European origin (Belgium & France)
    • Durability class 3 (heartwood)
    • Warm reddish‑brown colour, with a fine to moderately coarse grain
    • Robust, characteristic appearance with larger knots
    • High strength and dimensional stability, suitable for structural use
    • PEFC‑certified from sustainably managed forests
  • Applications

European Douglas is widely used in exterior constructions, including:

    • Outdoor structures
Verandas, pergolas, fencing, garden structures and outdoor furniture.
    • Bridges & structural outdoor elements
Suitable for applications requiring strength, durability and stiffness.
    • Interior applications
Its warm tone and natural grain also make Douglas an attractive option for interior use:
      • panelling
      • flooring
      • ceilings
      • wall cladding
