Timber frame construction: the building method of the future
Timber frame construction in a broader building context
Timber frame construction is increasingly being adopted as an alternative to traditional building methods. The combination of speed, flexibility and material choice makes this system particularly suitable for both residential and non‑residential applications.
During the information session, attention was given to the role of wood and panel products in timber frame structures, and to the way different materials together contribute to stability, technical performance and durability.
Technical contributions by guest speakers
The evening was enriched by contributions from Lode Goethals (BAST architects & engineers) and Diederik Duym (van Hoorebeke Timber). They shared their expertise on wood species, panel materials and their application in timber frame construction.
Based on practical experience and technical insights, they explained how material choices influence execution and performance in timber frame structures.
Site visit and networking moment
After the presentations, participants were invited for a guided visit of the Hout‑Bois van Steenberge site at North Sea Port Ghent, giving them a clearer view of the environment in which wood and panel materials are processed and applied.
The evening concluded with a networking moment, offering opportunities for further exchange between participants, speakers and the Hout‑Bois van Steenberge team.
A successful second edition
This second information session confirmed the importance of knowledge sharing and practice‑oriented insights within the sector. By combining theory, practice and interaction, the evening provided a valuable framework for professionals active in timber construction and related disciplines.
