Vipassana meditation centre – application of ThermoWood® Poplar

Back to overview

In this realisation for the Vipassana meditation centre, ThermoWood® Poplar was used as an exterior cladding material, in line with the project’s focus on simplicity, material honesty and long‑term performance. The choice of wood plays a key role in creating a calm and balanced architectural environment.

Thermal modification enhances the properties of poplar by improving its durability, dimensional stability and resistance to moisture, without the use of chemical treatments. This makes ThermoWood® Poplar particularly suitable for architectural applications where predictable behaviour and visual consistency are essential.

The wood’s fine, uniform texture and soft natural tone contribute to an understated façade that evolves evenly over time. This project demonstrates how thermally modified wood can support architecture that prioritises serenity, durability and harmonious integration with its surroundings.
