Exterior application of spruce

Back to overview

In this project, Scandinavian spruce is applied as a core material for exterior constructions where functionality, reliability and ease of processing are key considerations. Spruce is valued for its straight grain, uniform structure and excellent workability, allowing for precise and efficient installation.

For outdoor use, the spruce is pressure‑treated under autoclave, enhancing its resistance to moisture and biological exposure. This treatment ensures that the wood remains suitable for long‑term exterior applications under varying weather conditions.

The project incorporates planed cladding profiles (WND 25×125), planed on all four sides, resulting in a clean finish and consistent visual appearance. This realisation demonstrates how properly treated spruce remains a technically sound and cost‑effective solution for durable exterior applications.

When correctly treated, spruce offers a dependable and versatile solution for exterior wood applications.
